About ADC-Wisconsin

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee is the largest Arab American civil rights organization in the United States. It was founded in 1980 by Senator James Abourezk of South Dakota. The ADC combats anti-Arab bias in the media, works to educate Americans about Arab heritage, defends the civil rights of Arab Americans, and seeks to win a bigger voice in national affairs for the Arab American community. It lobbies for the rights of the Palestinian people and for the adoption by our government of a more balanced policy toward the Middle East.

The Wisconsin chapter of the ADC was formed by a small group of activists in 1999. Its founders sought to make the Arab American community a more visible force in the life of the state, and to increase the community's influence over the political process on both the state and national levels.  In its early days, the chapter focused its efforts on recruiting new members, educating the public about issues that concern us, and building relationships with Wisconsin's congressional delegation.

Since September 11, 2001, Arab Americans have faced severe new challenges. Our civil rights are threatened as never before. The situation of the Palestinians has become truly desperate. The United States has invaded and occupied Iraq.

In response to these developments, our membership has grown rapidly. The energy and enthusiasm of our new members, both Arab and non-Arab, have allowed us to undertake new political and educational initiatives, and to make our voice better heard in the local media. We have established fruitful alliances with other Wisconsin groups dedicated to civil rights and to the cause of peace and justice in the Middle East.

ADC-Wisconsin invites concerned Wisconsinites of all backgrounds, faiths, and ethnicities to join us in working toward our goals.
